Salman Asghar

Dr. Salman Asghar has been working as a practicing industrial and graphic designer and a university lecturer for more than ten years, presently, serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Product and Industrial Design (PID), University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr. Salman is proactively involved in design research for extracting results to better inform the practicing-designers, teaching and/or research design community at PostGraduate (PG) and UnderGraduate (UG) levels. Areas of interest span around multidisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches to design, focusing on Design Artefacts for better Social Acceptance, product semantics, visual graphemes and Design by Psychology. Dr. Salman is aiming to combine design knowledge and experience using the multi-disciplinary approach, to deliver the best creative solutions to the design/teaching fraternity.

Strategic, multidisciplinary designer & lecturer with an eye for innovation and pixel perfection. I’ve worked the gamut of clients (As a freelancer), appointed as a Lecturer in Department of Product & Industrial Design (PID) back in 2011. My greatest expertise revolve in the worlds of Product Design, Graphic Design, Interactive Design, social media, brand identity design, content creation and print collateral. My wish is to combine my knowledge and experience in these areas, to deliver the best creative to my students and audience. I am comfortable communicating concepts in sketch form, either as freehand sketches, physical models or initial exploratory 3D CAD models. I have experience of moving from concept to prototype and proficient with 3D Max and Environment making.

I completed my Ph.D. in Design from the School of Creative Arts and Design (SDCA), Loughborough University, UK. Majoring in product semantics design, design research (focusing on the design by psychology), minor in Graphics/Communication Design, and received my Doctoral Degree to showcase how design can help better communicate through designing products for a better social acceptance. While my focus was primarily on the design process, meanwhile, I have researched extensively on associated aspects, in detail, including communication in design, message communication through designed products, culture, cross-cultural psychology, design by psychology, etc. Importantly, the inspection of the human psychology and the designers' role in effectively communicating a designer’s message provided me with a detailed understanding of how humans respond to a provided message or a design element.
