Igbo Culture

Africa has a deep-rooted culture. Igbo culture is the customs and traditions of the Igbo people of Southeastern Nigeria. Tribal customs and hospitality are their features. Life is material as well as spiritual. Some features of their society are as follows;  To be indebted is a disgrace.  Idleness is a curse.  A man must be productive.  Males as well as females are economically independent.  They are negotiating for dowry.  A visitor always comes with a gift and leaves with a gift.  A failure in life is considered to be a failure in character.  A man who cannot look after his wife and children are considered is mean.  They have a sense of tribal pride, they fought wars but on the whole they. peaceful people.  They were pagans, they worshiped idles, and were superstitious.  The daughter of a man is considered the daughter of a whole tribe.  They made mistakes but when they realized this, they paid the ransom.  They give respect to strangers as well as enemies To cut the matter short, we can say that Achebe tries to go into deep reality and shows us a very fertile culture.
