The growing weight of school bags, filled with textbooks, notebooks, and other materials, can have lasting effects on a child’s physical health.

One of the primary concerns is the strain that heavy bags place on a child's back, neck, and shoulders. Carrying a bag that exceeds 10-15% of a child’s body weight can lead to poor posture, spinal misalignment, and muscle fatigue. Over time, this can contribute to chronic back pain and, in some cases, long-term spinal problems. Children are particularly vulnerable to these issues since their bones and muscles are still developing.

Heavy bags can also affect balance and gait. When a child carries an uneven load or consistently uses one shoulder to support the weight, it can cause them to lean forward or sideways. This can result in poor walking posture, which may increase the risk of tripping, falling, or other injuries, especially on uneven surfaces like stairs.
