About Syed Muhammad Hamza Anwar:
Working in the medical field is has been my passion. It is evident from my yearning for service for improvement of healthcare and lifestyle that is reflected by my endeavors urs in the past. These include being a part of NGOs like Rotary club for fundraising for polio eradication in Pakistan and leading and participating in relief and welfare campaigns in the drought stricken impoverished region of Tharparkar in Pakistan. I have practiced as a medical officer/ intern in Pakistan for one and a half year after my graduation and then continued working as a resident physician for one and a half years in the United States as an internal medicine and neurology physician. As an experienced physician and welfare worker, I have established good clinical skills for being able to practice independently as a general physician and assist in emergency inpatient hospital settings.
Experience
My professional experience spans a period of one year of continuous internship/house job experience at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Karachi after graduation (April 2018-March 2019). Here, I was able to translate my medical knowledge into practical experience in seeing patients under supervision of resident physicians and consultants
After this experience, I was able to rotate as an observer physician at University Nebraska Medical center in United States. Here, I was able to learn by observing and assisting in history taking of neurology patients. Next, I rotated as a clerkship student in Texas at a local cardiology clinic where I had hands on experience in taking care of cardiology patients and presenting educational topics. These experiences were followed by a gap of about 9-10 months, wherein I took my USMLE step 2 Cs and 3 exams and participated in residency interviews in United States.
I started my Neurology residency program at University New Mexico Hospital in July 2020 and completed one year of Internal medicine and six months of Neurology training until December 2021. Having returned to Pakistan in January 2022 due to visa issues, I started rotating in Neurology clinics in Pakistan under Dr Ayeesha Kamal at Aga Khan University Hospital from January to March 2022. Thereafter, I switched to Neurology and Neurophysiology clinic practice with Dr Mughis Sheerani at South City Hospital Karachi where I am still engaged till now.
