About Rabia Faridi:
Experienced Plant Breeding and Genetics researcher successful at designing and implementing study parameters. Good in analysis and logical reasoning.
Experience
I have educational preparation or applied experience in the following areas: Molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, tissue culturing, pathogen isolates inoculation and spore solution preparations, marker analysis) Bioinformatics (QTL mapping, GWAS, Synteny), Genomics (gene based data analysis), Statistical analyses (Use of R and Plabstat), Plant inoculation, Green house/Field experiments layout and planning with software Plabplan, Plant crossing techniques, plant breeding techniques and genome editing.
My Language of education was English throughout my study. I have good communication skills in English therefore, during my studentship I have got an honor to speak on a big platforms for example in UN general assembly session side line program (2014, NEWYORK) about Women education. I believe in team work, helpful and a friendly (a little funny) yet responsible environment at work place.
I have earned two traveling grants one for New York and one for Taiwan symposium in 2014. I wrote my PhD research proposal and won my scholarship grant for my PhD studies from Government of Pakistan to study in Germany. I have published one chapter of my thesis in well reputed journal while the other chapter is under process. . I feel my energy and dedication for grant proposal writing can contribute in positive way.
These days, I am motivated and very much passionate to use deep learning and python language in my future projects.
Education
I am a PhD graduate from University of Goettingen, Germany where I did my research on Genetic analyses of the resistance of faba beans (Vicia faba) to the fungus Ascochyta fabae.
During my research, I used updated genomic and genetic tools, explored different data bases, and performed precision phenotyping, planned field and green house experiments with plabplan, statistical analysis with R and Plabstat. I developed and found significant molecular markers for Ascochyta blight resistance in faba beans. The phenotyping with high accuracy and genotyping was performed with AFLP and SNP markers. I performed Genome-Wide Association study while slightly deviating and using the guided marker approach to find nearly candidate genes. Some of my PhD work is already published (reference in my CV)
I have supervised one MSc. (Hons) and one BSc. (Hons) student during PhD research in Plant Breeding and Methodology department, University of Goettingen Germany. Currently I am supervising six Master students in the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. These days, I am working on Mung bean. We are trying to knockdown the yellow mosaic virus susceptibility genes through CRISPR-CAS.
