Prof.Dr. Robina Farooq

With a distinguished career spanning over 33 years, I have made significant contributions to numerous esteemed universities in Pakistan, Britain, and China. Throughout my professional journey, I have actively engaged in various academic and research endeavours, serving as the Vice Chancellor of the largest Women University, GC Women University Faisalabad, Pakistan. Additionally, I have held roles as the Head and Director of the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation, Quality Enhancement Cell, and various departments such as Pharmacy, Chemistry, Students Start-up Business Centre, Business Incubation Centre, and Hostels Provost at COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan.

My academic prowess is evident through my consistent academic excellence, securing the top position in PhD, MSc, BSc, and Metric examinations. I pursued my education through various scholarships, including a Post Doc (HEC Funded, University of Glasgow, UK), a PhD (Cultural Scholarship from East China University of Sc & Tech, Shanghai, China), an MPhil (Brunel University, London, UK), and an MSc (Quaid-I-Azam Talent Scholarship from University of Agriculture Faisalabad).

My impactful career is marked by remarkable achievements. I hold United States patents (02), a Pakistan patent (01), and a trademark (01). I introduced new departments (6), established centers (01), and launched market-oriented programs (13). My extensive research has led to the publication of research articles (with an Impact Factor of 129.93) and books. I have successfully completed funded research projects (worth Rs 235.46 million) and executed a significant infrastructure development project (valued at 1.26 billion). Notably, I have overseen the installation of renewable energy, water harvesting, and waste-to-energy plants, as well as improvements in industrial processes and the reclamation of precious materials from industrial toxins. I have also designed drinking water biological filters for farmers.

During my tenure as VC, GCWUF achieved impressive rankings: 1st position among all Women Universities of Pakistan & South Asia in QS Asia Top University Rankings 2023, 3rd position under THE Impact Ranking, and 1st position among all Women Universities of Pakistan and 2nd among all Women Universities of the World in UI Green Metrics Ranking.

My strategic leadership has optimised human, physical, and financial resources at GCWUF through IT-based systems. Software applications manage official assignments, automated student life cycles, and official proceedings. The library is KOHA-enabled and provides information round the clock. Various teaching modes, including synchronous, asynchronous, and flip modes, have been introduced. I have facilitated online banking and developed high-tech labs (28), contributing to overall infrastructure enhancement.

My exceptional contributions have been recognized through prestigious national and international awards, including the ECO Excellence Award 2022, Tamgha-I-Imtiaz 2021, IAAM Scientist Medal Award 2018 in Sweden, Best Innovator Award, Best University Teacher Award 2008, and BASF Award in China as an excellent PhD student of the year 2003.

In my role as Vice Chancellor, I recognise the pivotal leadership responsibility of envisioning and elevating academia while judiciously managing human, physical, and financial resources. I believe that the societal impact of universities can shape civilised nations. Committed to my vision, I strive to elevate GCWUF into a globally renowned institution.

Driven by motivation, energy, enthusiasm, and conscientiousness, I approach my responsibilities with analytical acumen. I am dedicated to achieving academic, research, and social outreach goals aligned with the University's mission and vision. My fervent ambition is to create a lasting legacy of excellence.

I am working as professor for the last 12 years and During my professional career, United States patents (02), Pakistan patent (01) & trademark (01) are granted; new departments (6), centres (01) & market-oriented programs (13) are introduced; research articles (IF of 129.93) & books are published; funded research projects (Rs 249.46 million) are completed; infrastructure development project (1.26 billion) is executed; Plants for renewable energy, water harvesting and waste to energy are installed; industrial processes are improved; recovered precious materials from industrial toxins; and designed drinking water biological filters for farmers.
