About Junaid Ahmed:

My name is Junaid Ahmed Shaikh and I am currently employed at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) as a Medical Physicist cum Radiation Protection Officer With over 7 years of experience working with radiation sources, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of medical physics, and have developed a range of skills that are essential to success in this field.

Experience

I began my professional journey at SIUT as a trainee medical physicist in the radiation oncology department, where I received valuable hands-on training and mentorship from senior medical physicists. I learned various aspects of radiation therapy physics, including quality control of LINAC and CT simulator, dosimetry, treatment planning for EBRT and brachytherapy, and radiation protection. After several months of training, I decided to pursue a career in nuclear medicine.

As a Medical Physicist/Radiation Protection Officer specializing in nuclear medicine and PET/CT, I have spent the past several years honing my skills and knowledge in this field. In my current role, I am responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of a PET-CT scanner and cyclotron, as well as training staff on its proper use. This includes performing regular equipment quality checks and troubleshooting any issues that arise.

I work closely with the medical team to ensure that all imaging protocols are followed, and that patients receive the highest level of care. I am also involved in analyzing and interpreting medical images for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment, using my knowledge of medical physics and PET imaging to assist physicians in making informed decisions about patient care.

As a Medical Physicist/Radiation Protection Officer, I involve in decision making of the development ,implementation of the infrastructure and processes necessary for the provision of nuclear medicine services. This includes working with biomedical engineers to select, specify and evaluate vendor proposals for the procurement of medical equipment.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the opportunity to teach and mentor the next generation of medical professionals. I have had the opportunity to work with undergraduate medical students, helping them to understand the complex concepts and principles of medical physics and nuclear medicine. I am committed to providing my students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their future careers, and I am always looking for ways to make the learning experience engaging and interactive.

In addition to my clinical and teaching responsibilities, I am also dedicated to conducting research that has the potential to make a meaningful impact in the field. I have also presented some of my findings at different academic platforms.
Some of my recent research projects include an “Evaluation of the 18MeV medical grade cyclotron for the production of fluoride (F-18), its operation, and radiation safety”. I am currently working on a study focused on AI based methods for medical image segmentation. Several other studies also planned for future focusing the image quality and reconstruction.

I am also a good learner with strong skills in quick learning and active listening. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have consistently been considered a good learner and have often been approached by my colleagues for help with class assignments or to clarify unclear concepts. This ability to learn and understand complex ideas has helped me excel in my studies and career, and has ultimately led to my current role as a team leader in the PET-CT Cyclotron facility. I have the privilege of working with a highly skilled and dedicated team of professionals. In addition to my responsibilities as a team leader in the PET-CT Cyclotron facility, I also have the opportunity to collaborate with other medical physicists, nuclear medicine technologists, and radiologists to ensure the highest quality care for our patients.

One of my key strengths is my ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals. I have found that this skill is particularly important when working with medical staff, as it allows me to clearly explain complex technical concepts in a way that is easily understood.

Apart from my technical skills, I am highly analytical and have a strong problem-solving ability. I have had to troubleshoot a number of complex issues during my career, and have always been able to come up the most appropriate solutions to problems through data recording, calculation, analysis, and reporting This has allowed me to make a significant impact in my current role, and I am confident that it would be an asset to any organization.

I am grateful for the opportunity to work at SIUT, where I have the resources and support needed to pursue my passion for my profession. I am excited to continue learning and growing as a professional, and I am dedicated to making a positive contribution to the field. I am always looking for ways to improve upon current practices and contribute to the advancement of the field of medical physics/Radiation Safety. I believe that my dedication to continuous learning and professional development, along with my strong analytical, computational, communication and interpersonal skills, make me well-suited to make a positive impact in this field.

In the future, I am interested to further advance my skills and knowledge in this field. I am eager to take on new challenges and be a part of an organization that values innovation and growth. I believe that my expertise and dedication make me an ideal candidate for Medical Physicist/Radiation Safety position, and I would be excited to contribute my skills and experience to your team

Education

I have completed bachelors degree in Physics specialized in Nuclear Physics in 2014/15. Currently I am pursuing my Masters Degree in Artificial Intelligence having secured A in first semester.
